Tall Coreopsis (Coreopsis tripteris)

Coreopsis tripteris is common and a cosmopolitan North American species of flowering plant in the venerable Asteraceae family.

It is widespread across much of eastern and central North America from the Florida Panhandle west as far as Western Texas, Western Oklahoma and Iowa and north into QuΓ©bec and Ontario. Its common names include Tall Tickseed, Tall Coreopsis, and Atlantic Coreopsis.

This plant grows well in moist habitat, such as streambanks and wet meadows. It flowers in summer when pollinators are at their height of need.

Blooming well behind other Coreopsis such as Prairie Coreopsis and Lance (leaved) Coreopsis, this plant is an excellent backdrop for its shorter, earlier blooming cousins.

Tall Coreopsis enjoys disturbed soils and can colonize soils quickly, and are aggressive on their own, but they will give way to competition from other native plants where native plant diversity is strong.

This plant is considered present, native, and rare in several counties of the states of Wisconsin, Maryland, Kansas, and Texas.
