Dotted Blazing Star (Liatris punctata)

The purple flowers of the Dotted Blazing Star attract many pollinators, especially native bees and butterflies. Its late blooms are a favorite of Monarch butterflies. This plant is great for cutting. If cut early, the flowers keep their purple color and dry well.

Liatris punctata naturally grows in the Great Plains and Midwest, mostly in the prehistoric Loess Hills Region and prairies. Dotted Blazing Star prefers sandy, well-drained soil and full sun. The plant has a deep taproot, so it can survive droughts and does well in alkaline and calcareous soils.
